Biography
Born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Thaizinho Costa began his professional music career at the age of 19 and quickly became known for his unmistakable Old-School style, warm tone, and deep rhythmic sensibility. His groove-driven approach has led him to perform alongside a wide range of celebrated Brazilian artists, including Sandra Sá, Dalto, Amelinha, Claudio Zoli, Zé Ricardo, Davi Moraes, Fernanda Abreu, Pedro Mariano, and Guilherme Arantes, among many others. Today, Thaizinho is a member of Lúcio Mauro e Filhos, the resident band of the hit Globo TV program Caldeirão com Mion, where he performs weekly with numerous national and international artists. He is also the bassist and co-creator of Mangote, a Brazilian Jazz project known for its rich fusion of improvisation, tradition, and contemporary grooves. His signature bass lines can be heard on recordings by Marquinho O'Sócio, Claudio Zoli, Laura Zandonadi, Mayla Hadalla, Sandra de Sá, and Casa Aberta, showcasing his versatility across genres ranging from MPB and Soul to Funk, Pop, and Jazz. A lifelong student and lover of great music, Thaizinho has spent years refining his craft—absorbing influences, studying musical language, and shaping a style that is both sophisticated and deeply personal. His productions and bass performances reveal not only technical mastery, but also authenticity, elegance, and a musical essence that is unmistakably his own.
