Biography
Vitor Cortez is a Brazilian pianist, keyboardist, composer, educator, and sound researcher with more than 20 years of professional experience. He holds a Master's degree in Music Education Practices from UNIRIO and is currently a PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology at UFRJ, combining performance, academic research, music technology, and music therapy in his artistic and professional work. With a profile that integrates piano performance, electronic keyboards, sound synthesis, composition, and music technology, Vitor's work bridges traditional pianistic language with contemporary sonic textures. His arrangements and compositions move fluidly between classical music, electronic, experimental, and hybrid sound worlds, always guided by expressive depth and technical precision. Throughout his career, Vitor has worked as a performer, musical director, and sideman in both live and studio contexts. He has toured nationally as pianist and musical director with artists such as Juliette and Daniel Boaventura, and served as a sideman on the TV show Estrela da Casa (Rede Globo) during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. In 2024, he was also featured as an artist at Rock in Rio, performing daily live-loop piano and electronic performances with his project #LooPiano at the Global Village stage. In addition to his performance career, Vitor has extensive experience as an academic educator, having taught university-level courses in Audio Recording, Mixing, and Soundtrack Editing at the School of Communication of UFRJ, working with students in Broadcast Media and Communication. His teaching approach emphasizes the integration of musical aesthetics, technical knowledge, and contemporary sound production tools. Vitor is also a certified music therapist, trained at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música, one of the pioneering institutions in music therapy education in Brazil. This background deepened his understanding of music as both an artistic language and a tool for human development, care, and expression—particularly in clinical and health-related contexts. Alongside his academic and professional activities, Vitor shares educational content through his YouTube channel, where he publishes material on music, music technology, sound synthesis, and performance practices, making complex technical concepts accessible to a broader audience. As a researcher, his current doctoral work focuses on ethnomusicology, music technologies, contemporary practices, and creative processes, reinforcing his role as a musician who connects tradition, innovation, and human experience.
