What is the Artist Label Program?

The Sessions Boutique Artist Label Program is a different way for independent artists to receive label-style support without giving up ownership of their music. We believe artists shouldn't have to choose between simply distributing their music with little support or entering a traditional record-label arrangement that may require them to surrender significant rights or control. We created a middle ground. Through the Artist Label Program, Sessions Boutique can help artists release, distribute, promote, and develop their music while the artist retains ownership of their copyrights, master recordings, compositions, and publishing rights. Depending on the opportunities available, artists may also benefit from curator and playlist outreach, sync opportunities, promotional tools, artist development, professional music services, VEVO and video distribution, and Sessions Boutique's professional music network. Who can join the Artist Label Program?

Both All-Access members and non-members can participate. All-Access members can enroll in the program with guaranteed acceptance, subject to the program's terms and required verification. Artists who are not All-Access members may also apply. Their applications are reviewed individually and accepted artists participate under the program's standard terms.

Do I need to be an All-Access member?

No. Non-members may apply to the Artist Label Program and, if accepted, can participate under the program's standard terms. However, All-Access members receive additional benefits, including the ability to qualify for the 100% artist royalty benefit on music recorded through Sessions Boutique.

How does the application and acceptance process work?

All-Access members can enroll in the Artist Label Program, subject to the program's terms and verification requirements. Non-members may submit an application, which Sessions Boutique reviews individually. If accepted, the artist can enroll and begin using the program according to its terms. Verification is part of the process to help protect artists, Sessions Boutique, distribution partners, and the music platforms from fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Can I leave the program?

Yes. Artists can leave the Artist Label Program at any time. The program is designed to give artists support and opportunities without requiring them to enter a long-term traditional label commitment.

Do I keep ownership of my music?

Yes. You retain ownership of your copyrights, master recordings, compositions, and publishing rights. Joining the Artist Label Program does not transfer ownership of your music to Sessions Boutique.

Does Sessions Boutique own my master recordings?

Accepted Answer

No. Sessions Boutique does not take ownership of your master recordings simply because you release them through the Artist Label Program. You remain the owner of your masters.

Do I keep my publishing rights?

Yes. You retain your publishing rights. The Artist Label Program does not transfer ownership of your compositions or publishing to Sessions Boutique.

Can I distribute music I recorded and mixed through Sessions Boutique without uploading the files again?

Yes. All-Access members who recorded and mixed their music through Sessions Boutique can import eligible tracks directly from their Sessions Boutique projects when submitting them for distribution through the Artist Label Program. This means you don't have to download the finished files and upload them again. The release can be connected directly to the eligible project in The Studio. This also helps Sessions Boutique verify that the music being submitted corresponds to a project completed through the platform, allowing us to perform the appropriate release validation and quality checks before it is submitted for distribution.

What does "under worldwide license to Sessions Boutique" mean?

It means that you have authorized Sessions Boutique to release, distribute, administer, represent, and promote your music through the Artist Label Program. The license gives Sessions Boutique the rights necessary to operate the release through the program. It does not transfer ownership of your copyright, master, composition, or publishing rights.

When a release is distributed through the Artist Label Program, Sessions Boutique may appear in the copyright and ℗ information because the release is being represented and administered through the Sessions Boutique label. For example:

What rights does Sessions Boutique receive when I join?

You authorize Sessions Boutique to use the rights necessary to release, distribute, administer, represent, and promote your music through the Artist Label Program. The authorization is limited to the operation of the program and does not transfer ownership of your music to Sessions Boutique.

What happens to my music if I leave the program?

Leaving the program does not transfer ownership of your music to Sessions Boutique. You remain the owner of your music. For releases that are still being distributed or managed through the program, you may request their removal or transition out of the program in accordance with the applicable program and distribution procedures.
