Biography
Fabio Luna is a Brazilian drummer, flutist, and percussionist with a distinguished career spanning live performance, recording, and traditional Brazilian music. From 1998 to 2006, he was the drummer for legendary multi-instrumentalist Sivuca, performing extensively throughout Brazil and at international festivals. In 2002, Fabio released his first original instrumental album, Macunguê-Ará, showcasing his compositional voice and multi-instrumental abilities. In 2008, he was a finalist at the Prêmio da Música Brasileira for Best Instrumental Album with Forró e Choro Vol. I, a collaboration with Marcelo Caldi, where he performed on drums, percussion, and flute. Between 2004 and 2008, Fabio worked as drummer for Zélia Duncan, recording the live DVD Pré Pós Tudo Bossa Band, where he also contributed on flute and percussion. From 2010 to 2016, he was a drummer, flutist, and vocalist with the iconic bossa nova group Os Cariocas, recording the album Estamos Aí. He later continued with the group under the name Quarteto do Rio, contributing to the album Mr. Bossa Nova in collaboration with Roberto Menescal, as well as additional singles. Currently, Fabio performs with the groups Caraivana and Caraíva Samba Clube, where he plays flute, percussion, and cavaquinho. Known for his rhythmic precision, stylistic versatility, and deep connection to Brazilian musical traditions, Fabio Luna remains an active and respected presence in the contemporary music scene.
